moonrise kingdom

finally playing in south florida.... it's only in 3 theatres nearby so far.

another wes anderson classic. where does he come up with this shit? it was amazing. totally cute. and i loved loved loved the two young actors. kara hayward who played "suzy" is only 13 years old and it was her first movie to act in. and the same goes for jared gilman. i think my only con is that bill murray didn't play a big enough part. he is by far one of my favorite actors and i would've liked to see him talk more... but i guess that was his character.

love to wes anderson. you are the bomb.

watch this video of the two cuties:

movie reviews

the last station- an interesting movie about tolstoy's later life. helen mirren and paul giamatii of course were good, as was the man who played tolstoy. recommended.

micmacs- same director and writer of amelie. a lot of the same actors were used. it was just as cute. or maybe less cute and more "violent"

love & other drugs- ooh. tear. gooood. tear. i liked this. you can easily grow a fondness for anne hathaway. and yum jake gyllenhaal. just a good looking man. i dunno really what else to say. it's romantic and sexy and sad. my kinda movie. i guess???

movie reviews

winter's bone- i really loved this movie. the actress jennifer lawrence did an amazing job... how are 21 year olds so good at this? john hawkes starred as her uncle (who was in me and you and everyone we know...) he did an amazing job as well. highly recommended.

exit through the gift shop- crazy. this was sooo sweet to see street art being created. i feel like a lot of these artists(banksy) really make their mark everywhere... when i went to berlin all i saw was street art like his everywhere and i'm loving that this documentary focused in on some crazy "film maker" gone "artist" in a matter of months. andy warhol wannabe. i'm always noticing street art here in prague.

the dilemma - vince vaughn is just a funny actor in my opinion. i was just in the mood to see a comedy and didn't really expect much of this, but it wasn't so bad, actually. queen latifah is crazy. and wynona ryder is annoying.

morning glory- harrison ford? check. haha, that's all you need, right? and rachel mcadams is supah cute.

the best and the brightest- i'm not too sure why i downloaded this in the first place. it seemed like an R rated disney movie. so strange, lots of profanity, and overall questionable. amy sedaris (strangers with candy) was in it. hmmm... don't know what else to say.

babel- i've seen this twice now, and it is fantastical. yes, do see it. stars brad pitt, cate blanchett, and gael garcia bernal.

on deck: london blvd, 4 months/3 weeks/2 days, l'enfant, no strings attached...

the weekend with some reviews

this weekend was a little interesting, but mostly repetitive(a tad humdrum).

on friday nite we went with drew and katelyn to see a british film called another year at a nice little independent old theatre here in prague. it was our first time there and i really enjoyed it because it reminded me of the charles theatre in baltimore which i always loved to visit.

the movie was fantastic. the actors that were chosen portrayed their parts perfectly.

on saturday nite we went to an ethiopian restaurant. i first tried ethiopian food in baltimore. this place was pretty good, but it was pretty dead and i was a little surprised because they decorated it really nicely and kept on some traditions that i thought made it cool.

they had us rinse our hands before and and after we ate.

i got the vegetarian combo that comes with injera(their bread made of teff flour) it was pretty good although i really thought the injera i had in baltimore was a lot tastier.

afterward we came back to our apartment and a bunch of us watched the room- possibly one of the worst movies i've ever seen in my life. i can't even begin to say how    u n b e l i e v a b l e  it all was. i mean, really, i can't believe it was made. the director was also the main actor and his skills were the subbest of pars ever. i'm allowed to make up words about how i felt about this movie. i mean, let's say it was a dark comedy... we all were cracking up the whole way through it(while eating popcorn and cookies made by me & matt... matt & me... matt & and i) just seriously i can't... go on.

today was just the typical, like i said, repetitive, blah day. i've been catching up on a lot of project runway. took a bath. going to make some burritos tonite.

now it's time for the heat game. did i just say that? no, i'm sure i won't watch. i'll go try n skype some people.

more brief reviews by yours untruly

in america- just a good movie. thanks megan!

the immigrant- ohhh charlie chaplin. you're so talented.

fargo- oh yeah. just. oh. yohhh.

rainman-  the last time i saw this was when i was about 12 or so in north carolina with arianne. touching.

due date- really funny. robert downey jr. and zach galifianakis are great together, to my surprise.

still waiting to see gasland and i really want to see no strings attached.

catching up on new episodes of big love and californication tonite and might be starting the series boardwalk empire all while our stew is cooking for 3 hours.

films

we've been watching lots of movies lately... and popping popcorn in a pot on the stove. say that 10x fast. we don't have a microwave... but this way is better and healthier.

movies we've seen lately:

the kings speech (really good.)
animal kingdom (really disturbing. it made me uncomfortable so i didn't really enjoy it.)
black swan(twisted, unexpected... weird.)
blue valentine(ryan gosling is hot, and it was sooo sad.)
somewhere(slow but enjoyable. would have liked to see more of benecio del toro. )
true grit (westerns are not my kinda movies, but the characters of jeff bridges and matt damon were so different  than their usual roles that it caught my interest.)
the ghost writer. (nice lil mystery.)

upcoming films to see...

gasland

need to figure out more...

speaking of sex...

this movie is ridiculous. the first half was horrible, but as soon as bill murrays' character showed up, it got better. i only watched it because bill murray was in it... among others... mom from home alone, crazy woman from will and grace, crazy from wayne's world, and wonda from big love. bill murray just makes every movie great... even if his acting was just as deliberately bad as the other actors.

this isn't a recommendation, just a mere review.

the kids are all right

the kids are all right

on sunday we were looking forward to seeing the kids are all right. when we got there, the movie wasn't being shown at the time it said on the internet nor was it in english. it was czech dubbed. effff that. when we got back home we looked on itunes and noticed that it was available to rent.... oh yeah, we get to see movies months later than america does! so we watched and it saved us about 10-15 dollars, which in the end is okay in my book with a teachers pay. :)

anyhow, i really enjoyed watching this. not only is mark ruffalo sexy as hell, but i love julianne moore. it doesn't get better than that... AND a mischa barton look alike.
