raw food diet day 1

alright i'm going to start with saying, really? it's hard enough to find a wide array of people on a raw food diet, but your animals? a few months ago my dad's dog was diagnosed with heartworm and he heard from his holistic vet that putting the dog on a raw food diet could help. this really pumps up their immune system drastically. so why not cats? maybe they'll live till 20...

as soon as i got kisa at 3 months old she has been fed holistic natural food. (gluten free, no wheat, no corn, no soy, no meat by products) and i don't care about spending $25 dollars on a bag of food every month. she's important to me so therefore she should be fed well.

how weird is it that animals can handle raw meats but humans can't? i just find it strange...

here's a good article to read about it:

Is Raw Meat Safe?
Cats' digestive systems are finely tuned to handle things humans can't. Their stomachs have a highly acidic environment, which is an excellent deterrent to ingested bacteria. In the wild, cats sometimes eat some pretty putrid stuff with no ill effects. Wild cats die more often from infection due to injuries than from food poisoning. However, there are steps you can take if you have concerns about salmonella, e coli, or other bacteria.
  • Avoid packaged supermarket ground beef
  • Buy "free-range" meat and poultry from a trusted butcher
  • Add priobiotics (which help maintain intestinal health) to your raw food mix
  • Always use safe handling procedures, and take up and dispose of uneaten food within 30 minutes

the other day, my brother eruch said he was going to pick up raw food from fiesta pet deli  for his dogs and cats and asked me if i wanted some... sure, why not? let's see how kisa likes it.

it comes frozen and should be kept frozen except for the portion you feed for the present day and the following day. the mixture i got was of beef and chicken(with neck, liver, etc) eruch told me to slowly introduce it by mixing a little wet food in with the raw meat.

disclaimer:  don't take too much advice from me, this is all very new to me. so do your research if you're interested in feeding you pets a raw diet :)

day 1:

no dice. i mixed about 2 tablespoons of wet food with the raw meat and kisa sniffed it a few times and walked away. i've caught her several times up on the kitchen counter eating leaves off of my flowers instead.

she's also been incredibly loving because... she wants to be fed REAL FOOD.

now we're fighting.

be back soon with more updates! let' see how this process goes.

Love love love this diary. Can't wait to see day 2. Raw diets are so much healthier for your pets. I hope she embraces the raw diet and you see the benefits.
